Hangover cures have a reputation for encouraging young people to drink to excess. The best hangover cure though is the one that makes sure you say no to the drink in the first place. Don’t be fooled, the excess alcohol actually poisons the body and a hangover cure must eliminate all of the problems associated with this.

As most people who drink will attest: some drinks give you worse hangovers than others and this is caused by impurity of the drink itself. Another factor to consider is the concentration of these impurities as this will have an effect on how quickly you become drunk as well as the severity of the hangover. Clear drinks like vodka and Gin for example, have been filtered and contain fewer impurities than darker drinks like Cognac and Whiskey so the hangover may be less severe.
However, the real reason we have hangovers and strive for perfect hangover cures is because we simply drink too much. Often individuals become drunk because they drink on an empty stomach or drink a large amount in a short space of time but whatever the reason, no-one forces us to do it! Most regular drinkers are aware that if you drink slowly, even if it is continued, the body is able to process the alcohol before it gets to a level where we get drunk. As a consequence the world has become full of hangover cures, all claiming to be the best cure for a hangover. Some of these are quite ludicrous and now, talking about hangover cures has become a common topic in bars around the world. Nevertheless, the best cure for a hangover is still something that many people are searching for.
Even if you drink slowly eventually the alcohol will catch up with you and start the process that will eventually lead to a hangover. Therefore, it’s important to re-hydrate your body before you go to sleep, although this is easier said than done. Some swear by drinking a pint of water before sleep as well as taking a couple of headache tablets and drinking a glass of orange juice in the morning as it puts back some of the lost vitamin C. This often works but there the older you become the less you are able to drink and previous hangover cures aren’t as effective.
Apparently, bananas are good for as a hangover cure because they contain fructose and potassium which are both lost when we are drunk. Bananas also contain magnesium, good for the headache caused by pounding blood vessels and a natural antacid to help with the nausea.
Some proclaim that the ultimate hangover cure is the ‘Bloody Mary’ which is simply vodka and orange juice with a few other ingredients but many people cannot face alcohol with a hangover. Ultimately, saying ‘no’ is probably the best way to reduce the need of a hangover cure!
